How should women be trained to minimize risk of being the victim of a predator?
I would think footwork, circling, and sprinting. I’ve done JKD for years as a hobby, but lately I’ve been getting more requests from women to teach them self defense because they’re uncomfortable jogging and in parking ramps. In my experience, women aren’t interested in learning to hurt people, so I assume that requires a different approach to training.
Have them purchase the book THE GIFT OF FEAR at AMAZON BOOKS.Covers the different methods attackers use to put women at ease just before they attack.They don’t all jump out of bushes or dark alley ways.
Then have them read this site

All that you said would work to help stay protected from harmful people. I would try learning self-defense or karate maybe or even boxing to get you in shape.
Now if you are trained well and stay in shape from all of that I don’t think you will be a victim.
Because since you will learn all that you will know self-defense and if one predator comes up and tries to take your purse or fights you or whatever you will be ready with self-defense. Now using that he’ll see not to mess with you anymore and so will others. My only answer to you is to be ready, trained, and prepared for anything. Good Luck!

Serious answer would be , that woman should joint some temple . but even over there is not 100% safe .
OK , reality . Woman should not be fat -70 % of them are fat , slow and lazy . They should know sport is not watching TV , sport is practice anything .
School must teach them to understand problem , obesity is not COOL .
According to American law , most women win in court everything , because law is _for_ them .
From my experience , young women are fat , lazy , uneducated and obese . Heavy and dumb . They do not understand what is going on . They watch TV , video games , MP3 etc . real world does not exist for them .
Training for them ??? Free BUFFET

i’m a black belt in tae kwon do and as its more of a guy’s sport in Ireland, i spar more guys. girls are so much more vicious than guys and will lash out. i’d say teach them the basic techniques, punches, low kicks, elbows. all they need is to get a chance to run. dont just work on sprinting n footwork tho cos sometimes it ends up badly and ya have to attack.

Training should be done with deadly seriousness.
Self -defense class is poo. A person gets a couple of classes, a move or two and false confidence. Then they leave the class and never think about it again with no hope ever being able to defend themselves.
95% of self defense happens before an attack. Be aware of your environment. Avoid dangerous areas. Get a jogging partner. Carry pepper spray (and practice squirting it so you know how it works.) And they should take a martial art.
My goal is rarely to hurt other people. the main goal is to be safe and get away, hurting someone is just a means to an end.

As already stated, much of self defense begins with what you do before and attack begins.
Being vigilant of your surroundings and trying to never walk in dark places alone are great starting points.
I think that many of the techniques taught in JKD should be effective for self defense. The techniques of Krav Maga are also highly effective for personal defense.
For women especially, do not over look the techniques of Brazilian Jujitsu. It’s focus is on fighting from the ground. If you study many of the posisitons of BJJ, they could easily simulate some of the posisiotns that a woman who is being attacked may find her self in.
Many of the techniques of Hapkido are also good for self defense. This is a system of joint locks and strikes that rely on attacking the joints in the body by moving them against their natural range of motion. It is quite effective. During training I have been put down by women who were 5′ tall and weighed a 100lbs. I’m 6′2" and 240 have many years experience in various martial arts.
As someone else pointed out, merely having a couple of lessons and then never practicing is not sufficient. A woman who is serious about being able to defend herself should take classes on a regualr basis so that responses become automatic.
Ultimately, the woman has to taught to think in a "it’s me or him" mind set and do what ever it takes to stop her attacker.
