How do runway fees for pilots work?
I’m considering getting my Private Plane License, and I have a few basic questions about flying.
1. How do runway fees work, and how exactly are you billed for them?
2. How do you store planes at airports that aren’t your home airport, and at what cost?
3. How are your flight hours tracked?
Well….what country are you from?
in the U.K a typical way to pay landing fees, would be to walk into the big building with the yellow flag hanging on it.
a friend of mine from australia informs that over there, the tower will write down the registration number, and send a bill to the owner <<You would pay the person who owns the plane, be it a flight school or your friend.
for number 2, this depends..here in the U.S. the "Typical" Policy is parking’s free, if you land and park the FBO will take care of your plane and hope that you put some fuel in, Overnight will cost you somewhere between 10-30 per night.
3, You log your own hours. It’s an "Honor" system, if you lie your punishment will be severe when they find you out *Revocation of Licenses*

You pay the fees when you land, usually if you buy fuel there the fee is waved. Hangar fees vary dramatically, The airport I live at, and the nearest airport to me, the hangar fee is 75 bucks a month. There is a larger airport close that charges 200-400 a month, it all depends on where you park it, all you have to do is ask if an airport has hangar space. You track your flight hours in a log book, yourself, but don’t try to inflate your hours, everything has to match up. I know of a flight instructor who inflated their hours to get the job, he was soon found out and fired, not sure if any charges where pressed, but thy could have been. If anything happens at all the FAA wil look at your log books.

When you land you usually go park at an FBO (Fixed Based Operator). They will charge you any landing fee and over night fee. Usually you get one over night for free (outside) if you buy gas.
You track your own flight hours; no one cares unless its a rental plane and you are renting by the flight hour. In that case you have a hobbs meter just like you do no a tractor, generator, etc.
