Owning a parrot can be tough, especially if you’re a new parrot owner. There is so much information out there about taking care of your parrot that it can get really confusing. Not to mention that parrots have such a long life-span that taking care of them is a major on-going ordeal.

You have probably noticed that parrots are a different breed of pet because they can experience depression and pure love and emotion. They are also get attached to people so this can provide new challenges when raising your parrot.

Start with their diet because what they eat affects a lot about them. Their diet should be very balanced. It’s important that they get plenty of fresh fruits, seeds, vegetables, nuts, and parrot pellets. Not to mention they need lots of water to stay hydrated. Make sure to feed you parrot actively at least three times a day and many parrots will like to eat at the same time as you. When you feed your parrot, make sure that you keep each type of food in it’s own dish.

Another really important factor is your parrot cage. You must make sure that your parrot feels safe so they do not become depressed or get stressed out. The cage should be free of sharp edges and have enough room for them to completely expand their wings. Because they will be climbing all over their cage, you must have a very sturdy and strong cage.

Here something that a lot of people don’t consider… keep your hands really clean when you handle your parrot. Did you know that human saliva contains bacteria that is harmful to your parrot… so don’t let them kiss your lips.

This is really just barely touching all the different aspects of caring for your parrot. It’s important to constantly keep learning how to better care for your parrot because they will live a long time by your side.
