Those are french words, and that what makes me unable to pronounce them. I’m also wondering what makes "haute couture" different from "pret-a-porter" (ready-to-wear). Thanks in advance! Happy New Year everyone! :-)

Definitions:

Haute Couture: clothing that is made with the most expensive materials and sewn with extreme detail. It is usually custom-fitted/designed for a specific customer. This is what you see on the runways at Fashion Week.

Prêt-à-Porter: although designed by famous couturiers, this refers to factory-made clothing that is made in standardized sizes. This applies to cheaper versions of Haute Couture clothing.

Pronunciations:

Haute Couture: the first word is pronounced "ho" , "o" , "ote" ;; Couture is pronounced just as you would pronounce it when saying "Juicy Couture."

Prêt-à-Porter: pret-ä-pȯr-ˈtā ;; pret a (lower case a) portay

Hope this helps! (:
