DESIGNERS: How do you get your work photographed?

I see all these designers who are just starting out but have their work professionally photographed.

I wouldn’t think they generated enough money yet their designs to hire photographers and models.

How do they do it?

I would imagine they hire students looking to build portfolios, skilled amateurs, or even pros who are generous enough to do it cheap or for free. It is highly possible to have professional level images from non-pros and models assuming the designer also networks and/or has plenty of other creative-minded friends.

  2. I know designers that do their own photography (interior, specifically). To that end, photography isn’t rocket science, and being that designers know how they want to show their work, it’s not unheard of for them to also have knowledge of photography to go along wtih their design knowledge base, in a complimetary capacity. I know photographers who also do design, too. Go figure.

As a suggestion, if you are a designer, learn photography. It couldn’t hurt. I’m a photographer and I’m learning web design. Design is cool like that, a lot of the same sort of aesthetic principles bounce around from one creative doctrine to another freely.

It’s not that hard, granted its tough for me cause i’m terrible at photography. But all a person needs is a digital camera, and good lighting (table lamp works well) and backdrop can be your choice. I can say this because my other friends have done some really nice photography with just a plain point and shoot digital camera .. nothing special as long as you know how to do your lighting
