After you give birth, are you just bigger/fatter in the mid-section? Should I plan on buying larger sized clothes for after the birth or do you just keep wearing your maternity clothes? How long has it taken most of you to get back to pre-baby size?

I was back to my pre-baby weight after 2 months with my 1st child & about 5 months with my 2nd. I continued to wear some of the maternity clothes from the 1st 5 months of pregnancy. I also wore pants that were elastic waist…it has more flexibility.
Good luck…congratulations on your baby.

My understanding is that most women look about 5 months pregnant after delivering. Wearing your maternity clothes or some very loose regular clothing is probably best.

What I did, was go to the thrift store for a wardrobe I knew wouldn’t last that long. No since spending money on something you will just toss aside in a few months.
When you breastfeed, they say you slim down considerably by six weeks.

It all depends on how well you take care of your self while pregnant. If you work out and eat right it shouldn’t take you long to lose the baby weight. It took me about 1 month to get back to pre-baby size.

I can only answer from my own personal experience. I am 4 months post-pregnancy and still in a much larger size, mainly due to my increased tummy size. Don’t plan on being back into your regular clothes for a while after baby.

If this is your first baby, it could be as soon as 3-5 months. I would just wear your maternity clothes because you will lose weight. Most of it will be in your tummy, and when you leave the hospital you will want loose fitting clothes like maternity clothes anyway. You will not be small immediately, but with your first it wont take long. Good luck

Well, firstly everyone is very different. My experience was actually quite easy. I was stressed about being fat after baby, but it turned out I had nothing to worry about.
You can wear your maternity clothes for a bit after, then you will fit into the smaller maternity stuff after a week or so.
Trackies are good too, depending on what sort of birth you have you might want to stick to loose clothes just after. Also, you need stretchy tops to breastfeed.
I was in jeans 2 weeks after. 4 weeks after, I was in jeans that I was too big for before getting pregnant!
Eat well and take your baby for walks and you will drop the weight in no time.

keep your maternity clothes for a while, i am still 9kg over my pre-baby weight and my son is now 6 months old! I was told this: it takes 9 months to put it on, allow the same to lose it again. But don’t be too hard on yourself, you may not lose it all, your body changes after pregnancy, so think realistically. Your body is a temple, ignore the stretch marks etc, think about what you have achieved. You will more than likely get to 1 or 2 sizes above your pre-baby weight……..just enjoy that little bundle, don’t be paranoid about it

Don’t buy any new clothes yet — it’ll take a few months for your body to settle down — longer if you are breastfeeding. It’s a good idea to buy maternity clothing as separates, because if you are breastfeeding, you may find you need the bigger tops for quite some time — but the bottom half of you should settle down into something normal within three months.

You just don’t know what your body is going to do. Most women are a little bigger in the hips after giving birth. But if you have a C-section, then you may not be bigger after all.

There’s a lot of water to lose in the first few weeks, too, so you’ll probably be wearing maternity clothes during that time.

I wouldn’t buy anything before you give birth because you just don’t know exactly. Plan on wearing maternity clothes home from the hospital (something that fit at about six months pregnant). I lost all the weight within six weeks, but I’m not 5 months postpartum and still not into all my prepregnancy clothes. My prepregnancy pants with stretch in them fit, but I’m still a couple inches too big for my regular jeans. It didn’t take my this long after my first pregnancy, but the second one really left me with a flabby tummy.

When I had my daughter I left the hospital in maternity pants, you will still look about 4 months pregnant, and its not good to squeeze your mid section much because your body is still trying to get back in shape!

So plan on wearing either maternity clothes or even some loose sweatpants or something. I lost my baby belly in about a week. I was able to get back into my pre pregnancy clothes, of course breastfeeding helps shrink your uterus back down to size faster!

Wear whatever fits and is comfy. It’s hard to determine because every woman is different. Some people say it takes a year to completely get back to your pre-pregnancy body. I personally don’t believe that, I think if you exercise and eat right, you’ll be there sooner. Don’t buy anything until you’re sure because it will be a waste of money.

You are supposed to bring comfy clothing that you wore in the middle of the pregnancy to go home in… For the first week or so, you will just want to be comfortable whether in maternity, or Regular lounging clothes… but I would NOT go out and waste money on bigger clothing. You will eventually lose some of the weight. Just wear maternity for now, or maybe a few cotton pants… with a tee.

As far as pre baby size, they say generally 3-6 months, but some can take up to a couple years, and if you are anything like me, I gained 60 with my son, and that was 3 years ago and I can tell you that I still have not gotten back that small… Some people never do.

I just want to add that I did lose most of the 60, but I that was going to the gym everyday, and eating healthy… And I am still a couple sizes bigger. Your body changes after a birth, and obviously mine has because even though I lost most the weight, I am still in a slightly bigger size, because everything fits differently now. And you will see what I mean soon… :)

It usually takes as long to get back in shape as it did to be pregnant. give yourself a good nine months. get comfortable pants with stretchy waist bands. Shirts should be easy access for breastfeeding. I find button ups work the best. Just make sure you are comfortable. I wore my robe the first two weeks after i gave birth. I still cant fit into my pre preg jeans. I’m getting closer. two sizes away and three months to go. try to stay a healthy weight while pregnant and it wont be too hard to get your body back.

they actually have some really cute maternity close that you still can wear even after giving birth..for a few weeks after you still will look pregnant so wearing loose fitting cloths, your maternity close would probably be best..please just dont say whatever and wear sweats..lol… i see to many people do this.and its heartbreaking..just because you just had a child dosent mean you cant still be beautiful..

honestly it really depends on your body. after my first child was born i instantly went back to pre-preggo size. as soon as i delivered i didn’t even look like i just had a baby. i left the hospital in my pre-pregnancy clothes and it will probably be the same with this baby.
