How often should clothes be dry cleaned?

Dry cleaning is expensive and inconvenient, but it’s the only time wool clothes look really fresh.

I’ve gotten different answers from different tailors – some have said to have them cleaned only when they smell bad or have severe stains or wrinkling, others have said to do them every 3-4 wearings, regardless. Still others have said that the dry cleaning process eventually weakens the cloth.

I work in a business casual office and am a difficult size to fit, so I tend to hold onto clothes for a long time. Any advice would be appreciated.

I wear my dry cleaned suit several times before I sent it back for dry cleaning and I wear my dress shirt at least twice before they go back to the cleaners. I rarely get my shirt dry cleaned but just laundered.

  3. When you start to see stains or creases in the clothing it is time. Also, look for specials in your drycleaners for certains days of the week that it is cheaper. Look around– many places DO offer discounts.
