My brother has a job interview next week. The job is as a lead worker maintaining industrial machines. What would be good to wear for the interview? Would jeans be too casual? Should he wear khakis? Also, he despises polo shirts but I think a T-shirt would be too casual. Any suggestions?

Even if it’s an industrial job, applicants should always dress up for interviews. He probably won’t be wearing a dress shirt and khakis on the job, but he’ll only score points for looking professional. Jeans and a T-shirt are too casual for a job interview, so go for a button-down, khakis and nice shoes (no sneakers or flip-flops).

My best friend has Osteosarcoma, and tonight her orchestra is putting on a concert to raise money for the Sarcoma Foundation of America, because that was my friend’s Christmas wish. What should I wear tonight? I know the orchestra is wearing dressed for girls, and slacks/nice shirts for guys. I am selling raffle tickets, what should I be wearing? So far I’ve been thinking nice black pants, black ballet flats, and a nice red sweater. What do you think?

I think your suggested outfit sounds very appropriate – you don’t want to outshine the performers.

The ribbon for sarcoma is yellow, so if you have one to wear it will show up well on the red.

In addition, I only ever ride my bicycle on the pavement/side walk shared by pedestrians; the only time I go on the road is when cross the lights for pedestrians.

Is it really necessary for commuters to wear a bike helmet. I just find it unnecessary to wear helmets on the street because the chances of collision and injury are a lot less than on the road, and I question the compulsory bike helmet laws.

If wearing helmets is mandatory, why don’t we make the inclusion of airbags mandatory for all cars as well then?

Even when I ride on the sidewalk, which is illegal where I live, I have close calls when people are backing out of driveways and such. Not to mention the people that are getting out of their house I almost hit.

"The Crosswalk Slam

You’re riding on the sidewalk and cross the street at a crosswalk, and a car makes a right turn, right into you. Cars aren’t expecting bikes in the crosswalk, so you have to be very careful to avoid this one. This collision is so common we’ve lost track of the number of people who’ve told us they were hit this way, such as Ray John Ray. One study showed that sidewalk-riding was twice as dangerous as road riding, and another study said it’s even more dangerous than that.

How to avoid this collision:

1. Get a headlight. If you’re riding at night, you should absolutely use a front headlight. It’s required by law, anyway.

2. Slow down. Slow down enough that you’re able to completely stop if necessary.

3. Don’t ride on the sidewalk in the first place. Crossing between sidewalks can be a fairly dangerous maneuver. If you do it on the left-hand side of the street, you risk getting slammed as per the diagram. If you do it on the right-hand side of the street, you risk getting slammed by a car behind you that’s turning right. You also risk getting hit by cars pulling out of parking lots or driveways. These kinds of accidents are hard to avoid, which is a compelling reason to not ride on the sidewalk in the first place.

And another reason not to ride on the sidewalk is that you’re threatening to pedestrians. Your bike is as threatening to a pedestrian as a car is threatening to you. Finally, riding on the sidewalk is illegal in some places. (In Austin, those places are the Drag, and downtown on 6th St. and on Congress). If you do plan on riding on sidewalks, do it slowly and EXTRA carefully, ESPECIALLY when crossing the street between two sidewalks."

"1. Don’t ride on the sidewalk. When you come off the sidewalk to cross the street you’re invisible to motorists. You’re just begging to be hit if you do this. Keith Vick was killed this way in Austin, TX in Dec. 2002."

"Contrary to popular belief, you increase your chances of getting hit by car when riding your bike on the sidewalk. I know you may find it hard to believe but its true.

While riding in the street is more intimidating, it places you in a position that makes you more visible to the motorist. Usually people will ride on the sidewalk because they want to stay away from cars or they ride against traffic in the street because they are afraid of being hit from behind: they "want to see the cars coming at me". Crashes on sidewalks comprise close to fifty percent of all crash types. They are more common because every driveway forms an intersection and, if you went to driving school you may remember, that most crashes happen at intersections. In traffic engineering jargon where two vehicles cross paths is referred to as a conflict point and traffic engineers work very hard at reducing or eliminating conflict points.

Essentially every driveway that crosses the sidewalk forms a conflict point. Couple this with motorists not stopping at the sidewalk before entering the street and looking at traffic in the street not for bicyclists on the sidewalk and you have recipe for a crash. By cycling in the street you completely avoid these conflict points. The motorist stops before entering the street and is looking where you will be before they cross your path. While these crashes are usually not fatal, they can easily result in an incapacitating injury especially if you are not wearing a helmet. In my expert witness practice, the majority of sidewalk related crashes I’ve been involved with the rider was not wearing a helmet and usually result in brain injury"- http://ezinearticles.com/?Bicycle-Safety—The-Problems-With-Sidewalk-Riding-and-Against-the-Flow-of-Traffic&id=1857311

I am getting a tattoo on the upper part of my outer thigh. What should I wear when getting it done?

i would wear boy short underwear and wear loose swets or sports shorts that you can pull up

I have extended wear contact lenses (I think that’s what they are called) that can be worn every day for 2 weeks. Then I’m supposed to dispose of them and use a new pair. I usually only wear them when I work out which is about 2 hours a day. I’m on my last pair of lenses and don’t have the money to get new ones yet.

How much longer could I wear them? And what could happen if worn too long?

Over-wearing contact lenses can get pretty ugly, from eye infections to eye ulcers to surgical removal of lenses. It is the number one problem on contact lens wearer’s. However I don’t feel that your in those particular catagories, since you only wear them for several hours per day. I do recommend calling your eye doctor and getting advise from him/her. Be up front about your situation and voice your concerns. They will give you the proper advise. Good luck!

My brother has an interview tomorrow morning for Brown University and we don’t know what he should wear. Some websites say for ivy league colleges, wear a suit & tie & dress pants, and some say to wear polos and khakis. We’re so torn on what he should wear. Does anybody here interview Brown students? Brown alumni? Recently interviewed students? Please help!

When in doubt about dress, always go with the more formal choice. Even if a majority of interviewees are dressing too casually, your brother is better off dressing more formally. He does not need to wear a suit with matching jacket and trousers. He can wear a sport jacket and tie and dress slacks. He should wear a long-sleeved dress shirt, not a polo shirt. His shoes should be shined leather. The color of his belt should match the shoes.

(I am a guy) I usually wear jeans/runners/T-Shirts to parties, but my friend said that this one is in a restaurant and I should dress up nicer. What can I wear instead of jeans that is not too formal? Instead of the runners? What kind of a top? Links to pictures or products in retail stores are appreciated.

Shirt with a collar is dressier than a t-shirt.
A button down shirt.
Whatever shirt you choose, tucking it in with a belt added makes a dressier look but I wouldn’t do it if it is totally uncomfortable.
A sweater, with a light weight t-shirt under. (so you feel comfortable and can take the sweater off when your on your way home)
Pants – Dockers or similar looking pants. (No cargo pants)
Shoes should look clean. Very clean.

I will be wearing an off shoulder black dress for a party next month. Usually when I wear foundation on my face I cover it till my neck, just the part that shows above the neck. But I don’t know till where I should wear foundation on an off shoulder dress.
I don’t want a line to show on my shoulders where it ends. Girls, I need help please! Thanks!

Foundation is for improving the appearance of the skin-tone and making it look more even.
You shouldn’t have to ‘even-up’ the skin on your shoulders ..i think that’s maybe going a bit too far, unless you have scars or birthmarks (which should be covered with camouflage make-up)
For a more natural but enough coverage, use a mousse based foundation on your face and blend it into your neck. BLEND BLEND BLEND!! You should spend time on your foundation. Don’t rush it.
A small blending make-up sponge will give best results.
There shouldn’t be a line on your shoulders as your foundation shouldn’t be a different colour to your skin.
Your foundation should be a close or very close match to your skin and it shouldn’t be used to make your skin look darker. If you intend for your skin to be darker then you should get a spray tan.

I’m going to the carvery round my place tonight and I don’t know what to wear or take with me. I’m going with my grandparents, so I don’t need to wear anything toooooo special, but i do want to look nice. I can’t get anything messy, because I will get punished if I do. So what should I wear?

clothes

I love wearing checked shirts in summer and have just got myself another one and i don’t want to wait until next summer before i can wear it, so my question is what could/would you wear over it in winter? Or will it look a bit strange?

Thanks.
And i really like the shirts that have a hood so if anyone knows of any good fairly cheap places to get one that would be great.

I would wear a vest (one of the winter vests that have a fur hood) over the checkered shirt and a pair of skinny jeans with boots. That will make it a winter outfit!
